The global food crisis does not affect all the countries in the same way. For instance, in the USA these soaring prices have had only a modest effect on U.S. inflation, but they are having a brutal impact on poorer countries.

As a consequence, this food crisis does not only affect economics, it also affects politics. The popular rages in the Midle East are a result of the high food prices and corrupt regimes.

One of the main factors which have contributed to soaring food prices is the severe weather events: a heat wave in Rusia, a drought in Brasil, a flood in Australia...that have decreased the world food production. All these factors are related to a natural phenomenon called La Niña.

Finally, Paul Krugman warns us that what we are facing now is the beginning of an even more severe economic and political disruption. This is so due to our failure to act on greenhouse gases provoked by human beings.
